Features

Everything in the water

Wading is one long conversation, and everything here exists to make it easier to keep having. Where a feature is on one platform or one plan, it says so.

Talking

A conversation that meets you where you are

Wade pitches every line to you, and you can steer him without ever touching your level.

  • Say it simpler

Tap it and Wade re-says his last line with fewer, easier words. It never counts against you or moves your level.

  • Show the translation

See the whole line in your own language whenever you need it.

  • Ease off, or wade deeper

Shift the water a notch for just this conversation. Your level stays yours, and it resets next time.

  • Talk about this word

Tap any word and ask Wade to start a conversation around it.

  • He picks up the thread

Wade can open with where your last conversation left off, or something you told him.

  • He reads the room

He knows what time of day it is where you are, keeps it light late at night, and if you look up a few words in a row, his next reply quietly gets easier.

  • Casual or polite

Choose whether Wade talks to you casually or politely, per language.

  • Your reason for learning

A trip, family, a partner, work — tell Wade why, and he keeps it in mind. He never turns it into a lesson plan.

  • Typos don’t cost you the word

Misspell a word you know and it still counts as yours. Wade shows you the spelling.

  • Idioms, explained

When Wade uses an idiom, its gloss shows what it literally says.

  • Seven games

Twenty questions, Describe it and Give me a clue — played with your own words — plus Would you rather, Two truths and a lie, Story together and Scene. Or tap Surprise me and Wade picks.

  • Improvise a scene

Pick a place — a café, a market, a train station, a party — and make it up together. No script, no word list.

  • Stop whenever

End any game with one tap. The conversation just carries on.

  • Talk about the basics

Numbers, greetings, telling time, the script, a grammar pattern — pick one and Wade steers the conversation there. No lessons, no lists: you see the words and lines that came out of it, never what’s left.

  • Expeditions, if you like

Optional things to try, like telling a story set in the past or making plans for the weekend. Nothing expires.

Words

Every word came from a conversation

Your words and phrases, each with the moment you met it — and a say in which ones Wade uses.

  • Words and phrases

Everything you’ve met, searchable with or without accents, sorted by what’s fading, what’s recent, or A to Z.

  • A page for every word

Each time you met it, linked to the exact moment in the conversation — and each time you said it yourself.

  • Met together

See which words came up alongside each other.

  • By conversation

Browse your words by the conversation they came from.

  • Stop using this word

Ask Wade to set a word aside, and bring it back whenever you like.

  • Your own notes

Keep a private note or a memory trick on any word.

  • Recently yours

A shelf of the words that became yours in the last two weeks. When one does, Wade quietly says so — and if you bring back a word that had drifted, he notices that too.

  • Script your way

For languages with their own script: read words romanized, in the script, or both.

  • Share a word

Send a word with the sentence you learned it in.

  • Export your words

As a CSV: a download on the web, through the share sheet on your phone.

Remembering

Nothing you said goes missing

History keeps every conversation, Wade keeps your life in mind, and your words come back before they fade.

  • History that reads like a diary

Wade names each finished conversation and writes two lines on what you talked about.

  • Search everything you’ve said

Find any line across all your conversations — accents optional.

  • Save a moment

Bookmark any message and find it again in History → Saved. Copy it, or share the exchange as text.

  • Re-read in the language only

Hide your own language in a transcript and read just the words you’re learning.

  • Your first words

History keeps the first sentence you said in the language, and the first word that became yours.

  • Talk more about this

Pick up any past conversation’s topic in a fresh one. Or delete a conversation you’d rather not keep.

  • What Wade remembers

See every fact Wade keeps about you, and make him forget any of them with one tap.

  • Welcome back, never guilt

Away for a few days? Wade eases the water back and starts with words you know well.

  • Going away

Tell Wade the day you’ll be back and your reminders wait until then.

  • Today’s word

One of your words each day — usually one that’s starting to fade, a fresh one when nothing is — waiting on the Talk screen with a “Talk about it” button. Not in the mood? “Not today” puts it away until tomorrow.

  • On your lock screen

Have the daily word sent to your phone at the hour you choose, on the days you choose, with quiet hours, and the meaning hidden if you’d rather guess.

    Phone app

  • On your home screen

A widget with today’s word. Tap it and you’re talking.

    iPhone only

  • Past daily words

Look back at every daily word and start a conversation about any of them.

  • No nudges, ever

One switch turns off every reminder.

Listening

Out loud, in a real accent

Voice is a real spoken conversation, and Wade sounds like someone from where the language is spoken.

  • Talk out loud

A live spoken conversation with a native accent — even Wade’s English carries it.

    Plans with voice

  • Choose a regional accent

Mexico or Spain, Brazil or Portugal, France or Québec, and more, for the languages that have them.

    Plans with voice

  • Slower Wade

Ask him to speak at a calmer pace, with room around new words. And give him a hint so he says your name right.

    Plans with voice

  • Captions, your call

Show or hide the live transcript while you talk.

    Plans with voice

  • What you said out loud

After a call, see the words you said yourself.

    Plans with voice

  • Minutes, in plain sight

Your remaining voice minutes show while you talk. If they run out, text keeps working.

    Plans with voice

  • Hold to dictate

Speak a message instead of typing it, then read it over before you send. Works on the free plan too.

Progress

Measured by what you say

Progress counts what you produce yourself — never what you tapped, and never what you missed.

  • Your trend

Watch the immersion dial and your own share of the conversation rise. Tap a point to see something you said that session.

  • Most said, and new this week

The words you said most this month, and the ones you said for the first time this week.

  • Phrases you use

The phrases you actually reach for, most-used first.

  • Longer lines

See your sentences in the language get longer, conversation by conversation.

  • Things we’ve talked about

Every conversation, grouped by theme, each a tap from its transcript. And your total time together, with your longest conversation.

  • Words on the move

How your words are moving, and which are going quiet. One tap on “Talk about these” and Wade weaves them back into a conversation.

  • A letter from Wade

Once a month, a short letter about what you talked about and the words you started using.

  • The wrap-up

End a session and see what moved: new words, words that advanced, what you said yourself — and a pearl, when the conversation earned one.

  • Wade’s closet

Gear Wade earns as you go, plus free holiday hats. Tap anything to see when and why it was earned, and try it on before he wears it.

  • Pearls and depths

Small moments worth keeping, each with what earned it — and when you wade into deeper water, Wade marks the moment.

  • Wade reacts

Thinking while he replies, celebrating with you, waving hello. His tide pool follows your time of day.

  • All your languages

Learning more than one? Each gets its own card. Nothing is compared.
